Reminiscent of the Mughal era, the Anarkali suits have in the recent years have seen a revival; not just a silent one but a booming one. It has taken the Indian fashion world by storm and has been hugged by every woman in such a way that every garment kiosk has stocked these Indian garments in bundles to meet the ever growing demands. Rumored to have been worn by Anarkali, the court dancer of Akbar and Prince Salim’s love, the Anarkali suits are long Indian garments that have an emperor waistline that ends below the bust line and flares up from thereon in flowy voluminous pleated skirt. Screaming flamboyancy, these Indian garments make a woman look gorgeous, voluptuous, curvaceous and glamorous. Available in many materials like georgette, raw silk, simple cottons, these flowy and dreamy garments come in a wide range of variety i.e. traditional to trendy.
Anarkali suits have long since been worn with a churidar which is popularly known as chudi-salwar or chudi-pyjama. Paired with a dupatta/chunni that matches the suits or is in a contrasting color, the Anarkali suits are best suited for tall and slimmer women as well as women who have a smaller bust. A woman of small stature or rather a petite woman should try avoid wearing these garments as there is risk of being swallowed by its sheer voluminous. However, petite women can go for Anarkali suits whose hemline ends above the knees. This will help elongate the figure of a petite woman.
